About Us
ShadeTree Acre actually started out with a few chickens in my backyard during the spring of 2013 as a therapy program for my husband after he was diagnosed with PTSD and TBI from injuries sustained while in the United States Marine Corps. I also had been diagnosed with PTSD and TBI a few years earlier from my time in the Corps, so I knew the struggles and I believed the chickens would help him recover.
Fast forward a few months, the chickens have grown into adults and a few chickens had turned into hundreds of chickens (not to include our flock of turkeys and ducks we had added to the numbers as well). The birds had a tendency to bicker and fight between each other and in the end some would come out missing more feathers then the other. I saw that my chickens needed something that would attach to them to protect their feathers. That is when I started making chicken saddles. When I started, I had never used a sewing machine before, and I had no idea how to even thread it. All the knowledge came with time and I started getting more confident in my abilities and my crafting venture started, that is when ThimbleWorks was created.
Not only was I sewing I was playing around with ribbon, cutting vinyl decals, sewing up blankets, and scarfs, glass etching, and anything else I could possibly fit into my little 10 x 10 office.
My husband and I decided to turn our injuries and medical disabilities into a positive. Of course I would give anything to be back in the Corps, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't be were I am today without having being injured. For the first time in a long time I can say that I am happy with my life as it is. It took some time to adjust and Reinvent myself, but now I strive to Reinvent My Everyday.
